I went all day yesterday without my iPhone. I had neglected to keep it charged.
Two things happened.
One, I realized how dependent I had become on constantly checking email, rss, feeds, twitter, evernote, last.fm, etc.
Two, I was really productive. I had all sorts of time to think. Waiting in lines, getting gas, going to the bathroom.
Holy shit - the iPhone has really changed the way I use my time. And not for the better. I’m generally concious of how I manage my time. And stretch things to make the most of them.
But yesterday when I didnt have my iPhone, with my precious time saving Evernote… I got a lot done. A lot more than normal. I got a ton of writing done. And even genereated eleven new ideas to research and write about in the future. I don’t think this would have happened if I was checking college basketball scores that I don’t even really care about on my iPhone.
Damn, here I am again needing to trim the fat out of my information diet.
